Breaking bad……
We are constantly asked to look at repairing resin drives which other companies have installed badly. This driveway on the outskirts of Keyingham was a particularly bad example. We were told it had been installed with a single person using a cement mixer.

Badly Installed resin driveway

Stones Breaking Loose
It is vital that resin bound surfacing is installed using a specialist mixer. Hand paddles and cement mixer just won’t fully coat the aggregate with resin and the bond between the stones is incomplete. The main issue is that a specialist resin surfacing mixer is expensive and “occasional” installers are tempted to use less effective methods.Whilst the end result can occasionally look good it is rare for the finished surface to look good.
Breaking out a badly installed driveway
This was not simply a case of a few loose stones breaking away from the surface. The integrity of the whole driveway was compromised. This affect strength and the whole driveway needed removing and replacing. The clients had issues with the driveway even before the new surface was applied and the best advice would have been to dig it all out and install a new base.Having inspected the driveway we had no choice but to fully excavate and install a new base. We removed the badly installed resin then the failed tarmac underneath and then the cracked concrete below that.Once we had removed all the bad surfacing we started to prepare the driveway for a new resin bound course.
